BBC`s DRAGONS DEN : The Happy Horse

In December 2007, our best selling light weight hunter horse model appeared on the popular BBC TV Show, Dragons Den. The programme provides the opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to pitch for investment from five of the country`s top venture capitalists .

A lady called Aline accompanied "Charlie the Horse", looking to obtain funds to develop a pad that fits under the saddle . She reckoned it would take the equine world by storm.

Unfortunately, although the Dragons were impressed by the handsome 16.2hh model horse, they were not convinced about the limpet pad, and Aline rode out of the Den....and into the sunset ...with nothing...

THE TWO PRINCES by Meredydd Barker and directed by Phillip Breen

silver horse on stage

Clwyd Theatr Cymru, a professional theatre company based in North Wales purchased a model horse to star in a new play, called the Two Princes by Meredydd Barker and directed by Phillip Breen.

On the instructions of the set designer, one of the experienced prop makers adjusted the position of the head and neck of the horse, as well as making a sculpture of a boy.

The play revolves around a sculpture being tendered for by a local arts grant in Wales - the final sculpture is that of a horse and a boy who is identical to the main actor.

By providing the fibreglass model at short notice, the props maker was able to quickly complete the alterations to the horse, before concentrating on sculpting the boy.

William III was having a bad day; he didn`t have a horse on which to charge at his enemies....fortunately, we were able to sort him out with an able steed...

The Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland were concluding a highly successful 2007 programme with The Recruiting Officer by George Farquhar and directed by Lynne Parker.

Take two handsome grenadiers, Captain Plume and Worthy, add one wily, unscrupulous Sergeant Kite in a mission to recruit soldiers for the army. Throw in a feisty heroine, a jealous cousin, a large inheritance and an over protective father. Put them all together in one small country town and you have The Recruiting Officer. First performed over three hundred years ago, the play is a classic comedy of romance, intrigue and outrageous double-dealing which involves William III on horseback - actually it was a statue of William III on horseback.

The theatre props team were after an equestrian statue of William lll;  but hadn`t been able to locate anything suitable. So they decided instead to construct a figure onto an existing horse statue.

They took a mannequin, broke him up and dressed him in costume, then made up a saddle and bridle from felt. The figure was attached to the horse and the whole thing fibreglassed,  then painted to look like stone.

"The Horse Statue looks great when the villagers finally get him up onto the plinth in the end."
